Have you ever tried to explain to a person that they are wrong or that they have been deceived? Most of us have been on both sides of this conversation with friends or family. Many people don’t like having these difficult conversations, especially when we are on the receiving end.
Ministers who are active in pastoral care, pastoral counseling, evangelism or apologetics have these conversations on a regular basis. We work with people who are involved with cult groups, those who are struggling with addictions or any number of other problems. It can be difficult for people to accept that they have been deceived.
I remember one young lady who just couldn’t accept that she had been misled. She believed that it was impossible to be deceived if you prayed for Jesus to protect you.
Deception is one of Satan’s strategies and it is very effective. Listen to what the scripture says about deception.
“But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,” (1Ti 4:1)
